Hello my name is Phyllis. I am 25 years old with a B.A. in instrumental music education. I am a under graduate from Grambling State University. My main instrument is the Flute, yet I am able to play any and all instruments . I am currently getting my masters at Florida University in the Major economies of music with a concentration in musical dynamics. I love music and I’ve been playing sense I was 6 years old. I believe that everyone has the ability to learn music no matter how young or old.
My teaching experience dates all the way back to age 6. I started out on piano with my great grand mother . It’s because of her that I have the true love for music the way I do now. I wish to give each and every person willing the chance to enhance their Repertoire . Life is full of music every where we go. So why not learn from what you hear, see, and feel daily? Let’s make music And memories together ! Teaching is my passion but MUISC IS MY LIFE! I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I'm always looking to bring on new students of all ages!
For beginners we will take it slow but hard work is always needed. I can teach you everything that I know, but it’s up to the student to take in what’s going on and work hard to get down fundamentals . Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. I always praise my students and I also hold resigned so that parents and friends are able to see how hard they have worked!
