Overview:
I am a fellow Memphian and have been all of my life. I love everything about the music culture here in Memphis. You have gospel, jazz, reggae, blues and other great styles of music here! I graduated from Visible Music College with a bachelors degree music production. All though music engineering is my day job, being a bassist is my full on love. I have had the opportunity to play on a netflix called “Take Me To The River.” I have also had the pleasure of performing at the Lincoln Memorial Center.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience is very clear and focused. I teach from a fire and passion of being a bass guitarist. I love the instrument completely and I love to learn more and more about it. I want to convey that fire and passion to other people and that is why l want to teach on this instrument. My teaching experience goes back two years. I began doing it to get community servicr hours in order to graduate. I teach with passion, focus, motivation, structure and understanding. From my experience, if a child does not have these things, they will not succeed in the subject(s) being taught.
METHODS USED
For children and adults alike, I teach from the Ed Friedland Bass Method Book 1. It was actually the book that I started out on and Friedland is a well done studio and live bassist. He is just as amazing on bass guitar as he is on double bass. Once the student has progressed from that book then I move on to sight seeing with the student. After this then I move on to transribing basslines and meldodic lines. Lastly, I will introduce the student to his/her composition that they will compose on pen and pape and play it during their recital. I will take up time with the student in each of these categories for a month a piece. My key is for the student to throughly understand all of the lessons that I am giving.
LESSON STYLE
I approach teaching from a relax and laidback standpoint. I want to talk to the student as a friend and helper. My desire is to not make the student rebellious or nervous from my teaching methods. I start off on all my lessons asking my students what do they want to learn from my lessons. I ask them what genre do they want to know the most? How will learning bass guitar help them in their personal life? What made them pick up this instrument? What is their most favorite bass line? What is there most favorite bassplayer? From these questions, I will know and understand how to teach the student my methods to be most suitable to them.
