I have worked as a Vocal Coach for over 35 years. I have worked with many who have retired and just want to play for relaxation or as a hobby. We give special attention to those who have retired and need a hobby. We have worked with DayCare Centers and private schools and have developed choirs and other music groups.
1981 - Present Performed with various church choirs, professional groups as Pianist and conductor. Has taught music in Houston since 1981. I introduce students to various styles of music even though I may push classical and sacred music. My students are delighted that they can tackle such music even though they must develop their technique. I stress to students the power of being consistance and steady in daily practice. They learn a short history of the music they must perform and how to do it according to the Composer.
For beginning students I use the Bastien System. For Adults, I use The Alfred Adult beginner for Piano Lessons. I try to adapt the method to the skill of the student, which incorporates my own system, based on years of teaching. I teach according to the student;s skill, and at their own pace. I sometimes use the Trinity College of Music, london, syllabus. Classes consist of warming up exercises, then the student works on the music assigned and the Instructor gives it a grade. Then the Instructor assigns new material for the following week.
I love to see my students reach musical maturity. Therefore, even, a beginner will sound musical after just a few lessons. I always remind them to push forward to higher levels. I always advise them that practise is the key and the more they practice the faster they advance.
