I’ve been teaching piano for the last 20+ years and love opening the world of music to my students. I started learning piano at age ten and continued my music education for 10 years. I was grateful to have mostly one-on one instruction, since this really trained me to be an empathetic teacher, focused on the needs of the individual student. Over the years I've also explored cello and ukulele but my first love has always been piano and I’m so happy I can share this love with others. I have taught piano all over the US and was thankful to have had experience with online/virtual lessons even before it became a "thing" in 2020.
At the encouragement of my piano teacher, I started teaching lessons at age 16. I soon realized that I loved helping others learn and enjoy music. I have continued my development as a teacher through workshops and teacher training. The feedback I get from parents and students has helped me to progress as well. I particularly enjoy teaching younger students. The enthusiasm they have for learning and trying new things is contagious. It's so rewarding to help them develop a lifelong love for music.
For beginning students I typically use Piano Adventures by Faber and Faber. This lesson series helps to ensure each student gets a well rounded music education. For those with previous experience, I will get to know where they're at in their knowledge and ability as well as which music interests them, and we go from there. I encourage all my students to explore genres/songs that appeal to them since that's what makes music fun! I also push them a little outside their comfort zone by incorporating improv and composing activities.
Rather than academic performance, I want my students to love playing and feel personal satisfaction in the skills they have gained. Learning piano is a long-time investment so I try to encourage patience and perseverance. We set goals each week that help to motivate and keep track of the students progress. With younger students, the parents support is vital. Every week I make sure to keep them informed of what the student is working on so they can offer support and encouragement at home. With this team support the budding pianist can thrive!
Very patient, genuinely loves the instrument she plays as well as teaching it.
Quinn has found the balance of being professional and fun! As an adult learner, I didn’t think I’d be able to learn more than the basics, but Quinn can quickly identify her students’ strengths and weaknesses and work with both. If there is something I have wanted to work on, she is adaptable. She always comes to class prepared, often with new ideas and challenges. She has a lot of integrity and knowledge and I would recommend her as a teacher to any age and any level.
Quinn got both of my homeschooled kids started on the piano with a sturdy and fun foundation. She genuinely connected with each of them individually- even though they are very different and have different learning styles. Her commitment to their musical education made a big difference in our lives!
Quinn has been teaching our daughter piano for several years, since she was very young. My daughter loves her because she is patient and always kind. We love her because she is also motivating and dedicated to helping our daughter continue even when it is hard. Lessons are always consistent and Quinn is a good communicator.
Quinn has taught my daughter for several years and is always patient and paces the lessons to her needs. My daughter loves piano because Quinn makes it fun and knows how to meet her where she is!
Quinn is the kindest and most patient teacher ever. As an older adult it could be very intimidating learning to play the piano but Quinn has a gift of explaining things in a way that keeps me motivated and challenged. I have learned so much from her in these past four years, and I'm so thankful she can do zoom lessons which always work out great!
