Overview:
Hello! I'm a life-long cellist with solo, ensemble, and orchestral experience. I graduated from Indiana University in 2007 with majors in cello performance and journalism. Over the course of my musical career, I have performed with the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra, the All-Northwest Orchestra, the Interlochen World Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Indiana University Orchestra, the Henderson Symphony Orchestra, and the Denver Philharmonic. Outside of music, I enjoy running, reading, cooking, and developing web applications.
EXPERIENCE
Throughout school and up until I graduated from college, I taught private cello lessons during the summers. I have been a classroom teacher (elementary, middle, and high school, in addition to teaching adults computer programming) for the past twelve years. I thoroughly enjoy working with students of all ages and helping them meet their goals. One of the highlights of my musical career was a month-long concert tour of China with Denver Philharmonic in the summer of 2016. We performed in a different city almost every night!
METHODS USED
I began learning cello with the Suzuki method at age five. I believe Suzuki is a great place to start, as it gives learners a chance to practice specific technical and musical skills before moving on to more challenging material. Suzuki also emphasizes listening to professionals perform pieces you're working on, which I believe is important as it allows you to "absorb" good habits. I believe in breaking down complex musical concepts into bite-sized lessons that include repetition and practice to achieve mastery.
LESSON STYLE
I believe it's important for students and teachers to work together to set goals for what the student wants to accomplish. In this sense, I can be flexible -- I'm willing to push students who want to be challenged, or be a little more laid back for those who want music to be a side hobby. We will work together to create a plan that meets your needs. I also believe in fun! I love laughing with my students and think that when learning anything difficult, it is essential to balance it out with laughter and joy.

Rachel is very patient and extremely knowledgeable with the cello, she is helping to create the skills my daughter will need to be successful with her cello experience. I'm thinking about having my 7 year old son study with Rachel in the near future as well. Her ability and teaching style were definitely beyond my expectations! Many thanks to Rachel for her dedication to this beautiful instrument and for sharing her talent with my daughter

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
