I am a kind and motivated instructor who loves sharing the joy I get from performing music. God gave me a gift and talent and I love having the opportunity to use it to teach others to play! I have been playing the piano for over 20 years. I have played at competitions, events, weddings, funerals, and church services. I have had the privalege of playing for groups of over 100 people. I can play songs by just hearing them or by reading the notes written on a page. I have been teaching piano lessons for the past 5 years to students of all ages. I am very passionate about music and playing the piano and would love to share that passion with my students!
I started lessons when I was 6 years old. It came natural to me and became an instant safe place. I would play so much at home my parents would have to make me take a break. That drive prepared me for teaching others to have the same passion for it. I started giving lessons about 5 years ago. I have taught students of all ages and have even taught a student with special needs. I have found that in every situation, practicing daily is the best way to excel as well as promote passion in creating music! I want my students to realize that music is fun and can be a great way to get away from the stress of everyday life! Giving students the ability to do something so therapeutic as music makes me love my job. I am always looking to add more students to my schedule no matter the age!
For beginning students, I typically start them with learning the notes, staff, beats, etc. Once the student has mastered those abilities, I begin to introduce playing "by ear" as I like to call it. This process involves the student choosing the song and learning how to play it solely by listening to it and figuring out the chords. If the student is looking to fulfill a career or perform at a competition as a piano player, then I also take the time to focus on the best practices to get them up to par with what they need for the career/competition.
If the student does not enjoy the lesson then they will not enjoy playing the instrument! With this in mind, I make sure to enforce the joy of music and focus on the fun side of playing. I recommend students learning at their own pace. This is done by setting appropriate goals and focusing on what each student needs to reach those goals. I also like to focus on a particular genre of music that the student likes, so that they are more interested in learning to play the songs each lesson. I try to tailor my teachings to the student's wants and needs.
