Overview:
I am passionate about sharing my gift & love of music with students of all ages, especially school aged children. Currently I teach privately as well as volunteer with an afterschool program. I am also the musical director of my band. We perform corporate events and also have toured with R&B and Pop artists such as Hi-Five, Robbie Nova, and Esnavi to name a few. I always enjoy giving back my gifts & talents to the next generation and truly paying forward!
EXPERIENCE
For the past 13 years I've been teaching private lessons in my studio as well as at students homes. I encourage regular practice on a consistent schedule especially for younger students, as it tends to help them progress and gain a passion for the instrument. In my school-aged students, I implement the NYS Common Core curriculum into lessons to ensure they are in alignment with learning vocabulary as well as critical thinking of music. I also do audition prep for students preparing for performing arts schools. For my adult students, I encourage them to enter competitions and audition for bands. With all my students my motto is, “If they do not learn the way that I teach, then I will teach the way that they will learn!” Music is fun, its expressive, and most of all its art and any student with me of any age will enjoy the musical pedigogial journey they embark on with me as their instructor!
METHODS USED
I believe in teaching discipline, responsibility and dedication through the art of music! I use the NYS Common Core in Music to teach. My students are more likely to excel in all of their studies, have enhanced critical thinking skills and will have a higher level of focus & discipline than students not studying music & the arts. As an adult, learning how to play an instrument is a way to challenge your brain in an effort to stay sharper and alert for longer. Not only is it possible for this stronger cognitive function to stave off dementia, but it will also allow you to enjoy a higher quality of life with a more active brain. Not to mention it’s a great stress reliever! All in all, the main objective for me is to teach music in a fun, educational, theraputic manner!
LESSON STYLE
Practice is ideal for each student. I encourage my students in their practicing. Progress will be made most quickly by those students who maintain the recommended practicing time (1 hour per day). Parents are also encouraged to be involved in their students practice. Taking the time to listen to your child play their weekly songs, or creating a set time for practicing in the students daily routine are good ways to become involved.
