Overview:
I grew up in a musical family and began classical music training at the age of 6. I studied clarinet and classical percussion and later on focussed on drums, improvised music, theory and composition. I graduated from the Conservatory in Amsterdam with a Master in Performance and Composition. I performed all over the world (America, Asia, Africa, Europe) I love sharing my knowledge with students of all levels and ages. Art is one of the most important things in life and communicating through art is one of the most beautiful thins one can do. I want to learn you how to communicate through music!
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching private lessons 9 years ago, working with all ages and all levels. I am always aiming for the best balance between fun, discipline, technique and freedom. This includes my combination of fundamentals of technique, musical games, improvisation and focus training. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points! Giving students the right motivation and the correct point of view on the matter can not only change the level of musicianship, but can also change you as a human being. Life and art are intertwined!
METHODS USED
For beginning students, I typically start with the basic fundamentals of the instrument, focussing on right posture, grip and sound. For intermediate students there is more freedom. If there is a good understanding of how the fundamentals work, the student can share her / his preference with me. Since I teach all genres, there is a very broad palette to discuss. Whenever I have a good feeling with the student's preference, I'll come up with a system so we can start working on new material. For advanced students I have a more philosophical approach, discussing taste and imagination.
LESSON STYLE
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students develop their own style in music and art. This progress happens at his or her own pace. Therefore, it is important that I set realistic goals per student. This leads to a positive teaching and learning environment. I truly believe that art, in this case music, is connected with life and therefore life is connected with art; What I am trying to say is that no matter what the level of the student is, when you teach and learn the right way, it goes way beyond music itself. And I hope to share my knowledge the correct way and I hope to learn from my students as well!
