I have great appreciation for music and the art of teaching. I began teaching music at a very young age, and instantly knew that it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. After receiving my Associate degree, I began studying Music Education at Florida Atlantic University. Currently I am just a couple of semesters away from receiving my Bachelor of Music Education degree. I can't wait to share my knowledge and experience with others, and gain even more expeience along the way.
My teaching experience dates back to high school days, where I felt the urge to share what I've learned immidiately after completing taking guitar lessons. I began to teach guitar at a community center at the age of 16. I also started to give private lessons along with the classses that I was teaching at the community center. My great desire to learn everything that I can about music lead me to where I am today. The pre-existing appreciation that I had for music and education grew even more as I have been working toward my degree.
I like working with songs that students will enjoy playing or singing. I use songs as tools that include new information; so, with each piece, student learns something new with the joy of "just" learning a song. I create lesson plans that allow students to learn one step at a time. I use variety of methods that help students to focus and/or refocus on the concepts they are learning. With the use of reverse practice techniques I help students to work smarter to benefit more from their practice sessions.
I believe that one of the most important and essential components of learning is "fun". I also believe that music requires great discipline. I've developed my teaching style around these two factors where I create lesson plans that include a variety of methods to provide a learning experience that is fun! I also teach and encourage students to use their expressive nature to ensure musicality.
