Overview:
Hello! My name is Raphael. I am a passionate guitarist. Since the age of six I have
been involved with music. Singing lead me to learn guitar. For the past ten years I have
been performing with various bands in Colorado and Minnesota. I continue to take guitar
lessons and sharpen my teaching skills. I have created, compiled ad produced a CD of my
original music.
I consider myself more of an inspirational mentor than a teacher. During our initial meeting I
work with the individual to clarify his or her personal goals which includes the guitar.
Understanding the student’s motivation greatly enhances his or her state of being happy,
healthy and successful. We may revisit the goals as needed. My playing experience and
vast knowledge of music material and aides will be utilized to match appropriate expediting
goal achievements
Opportunities to learn sight reading and how to memorize, as well as, develop skills in song
writing and improvisation. Students are encouraged to bring his or her own material. Ample
time and direction can be given to prepare for any type of performances.
Bottom line is that my demeanor is of encouragement with a wholesome approach to life
with your guitar.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience can be dated back to high school, where I taught friends and family after school or in the summer. I started to take teaching music lessons seriously within the last couple of years. I love passing this onto my students and giving them the tools to succeed on guitar. I can see from the results of my teaching, that consistency is key. Every time we are having a lesson, I teach the student a new concept and elaborate on their prior knowledge. I enjoy giving them a professional approach with care. I've learned from all my experience, that you can never stop learning because "If you're not improving, then you're going backwards in progress".
METHODS USED
I am straight-forward with my students. I address the issues right away and reference the correct methods. I will explain the answer until the student understands. I will take my time to explain the issue and get creative until we both are on the same page. I value "having confidence in yourself" and use cheerleading statements to bring out their inner-confidence. Some books I currently use or reference with my students include: "Totally Interactive Band Bible", "Music Success in Nine Weeks", "Fast Track - Chords & Scales for Guitar", "The Bass- a comprehensive approach book 1", Total Guitar".
LESSON STYLE
I have great joy in seeing my students succeed! When you succeed, I succeed. Together we are a team! I will correct you on the spot when there is an error, so you don't keep doing an incorrect guitar hand gesture. Skills my students learn with me include sight-reading, discovering new genres and improvisation. The sky is the limit! I will work on your songs (orginal or covers) with you to develop your skills. You are the main focus! I encourage my students to apply for gigs, performances and show cases. Along with providing them performance opportunities. You can bring in a piece of what you will preform and I can provide feedback and grade your performance!
