Bachelor Degree: Xavier University
2020 - Xavier University Music Scholarship
I am a recent university graduate who is passionate about sharing my love of music with students, and developing that devotion with them! I have a special interest in performing, so my lessons reflect my training in performance with major orchestras. I currently participate in the Seven Hills Symphony here in Cincinnati, as well as smaller chamber ensembles for paid gigs. I am currently still pursuing the last credit for my Music Performance degree, and I hope you will join me on my journey to success!
My experience with teaching has spanned from my high school days when I trained in my hometown of Nashville, TN. I taught students in my community orchestra, as well as a basic music theory class there. After high school, I took on a couple of private students for my college professors, whom I intermittently taught throughout my bachelors degree. Now, I am currently employed by Angel’s House of Music in Cincinnati, where I have 5 full time students. I look forward to taking more students onboard this journey!
For beginning students, I usually prefer to use the Suzuki method, as this is the method I grew up on, and I prefer to teach the knowledge that I find useful in the method. However, my lessons are not solely based on my preference, as I identify individual strengths and weaknesses and target those in the sessions. Ability level also has a big role in planning the direction of the lesson, as I do not use Suzuki for advanced students. I transition into building a solid repertoire and adaptability for advanced students.
My teaching style depends upon the student! I love reaching set goals, and I verbally check in to take the students feelings, thoughts, and playing into account. We come to a decision together, and I am not the final say on any matter. I see lessons as a collaboration, as I have much to learn from this experience as well. I prepare the student to be adaptable, and to use the skills as effectively in practice as in performance and lessons. Teaching a student how to love music is much more effective than forming it as a teacher.
