I've been playing drums since I received a snare drum one Christmas as a child. Slowly but surely I started to teach myself how to play by listening and watching. As a teenager I began formal lessons and followed that up with a stint at Berklee College of Music in Boston in the performance program. After spending two years at Berklee I needed to get out in the real world and do some playing. I spent about 10 years in New York City recording jingles, corporate films, state sponsored videos, and demos. After years of bouncing around in different bands I've been performing steadily with an r&b based Nyack, NY band called "The Unit" In addition, I'm lucky to be asked to perform with other talented muscians for live work and studio dates.
EXPERIENCE
I love to teach. The feeling of helping someone acheive a goal, whether it be playing for fun, or reaching for the stars is an exhilarating feeling. I've been teaching on and off since I was about 21 years old.
METHODS USED
Every student needs to understand the importance of reading music, not only as an educational necessity, but also in a real world practical environment. If I can teach a student the technical aspect of playing as well as the required feel then I've done my job.
LESSON STYLE
I stress to all my students exactly what a drummer's job is, that he/she needs to compliment the music and play within the framework of the song. The best thing that another musician can say about a drummer is that they have a great "groove" or great "feel". If I can get my students to that point then I'm happy.
