Overview:
I'm a passionate, experienced singer/songwriter, guitarist, and performer looking to share my love of music. I started playing guitar at age six, and by the time I wrote my first song at age seven, I was hooked. While growing up outside of Philadelphia, I made a name for myself in the local music scene by performing at various East Coast venues including the legendary folk mecca, The Bitter End, and World Cafe Live. In 2017, I graduated from the prestigious Popular Music Program at USC’s Thornton School of Music and I have been pursuing a career as a songwriter and artist since then.
EXPERIENCE
Around the age of 15, after about five years of performing, I started teaching guitar lessons to kids around my community and discovered a love for sharing my musical knowledge with others. When I went on to college, I continued teaching individual students and in my sophomore year joined a volunteer teaching group called SLAM! Through this twelve-week program, I had the opportunity to lead a group class of fifteen underprivileged middle schoolers with little to no musical experience. In my 9 years of teaching, I have worked with students ranging from four-years-old to thirty-years-old on everything from singing Disney ballads to studying advanced music theory. I love connecting with new students--whether they're five or eighty-five--and working with them to achieve their unique goals on their personal musical journey.
METHODS USED
I believe that choosing lesson material should always be a collaborative experience between student and teacher. Flexibility is one of my core values in teaching music, as I’ve found that each student has unique interests, goals, strengths, and weaknesses. Rather than going into lessons with a set curriculum, I like to give students some agency over what they’d like to learn while making sure to cover fundamentals as they apply along the way. I always start new students out by getting them familiar with their instrument as well as finding out what inspires them to play; Building lesson plans around this core drive makes the learning process fun and exciting for everyone, no matter their age or skill level!
LESSON STYLE
Enthusiasm! Encouragement! Fun! And lots of patience. I'm an energetic and passionate teacher and my goal in teaching is to pass that energy and passion on to my students! I understand that setting realistic goals and moving at a comfortable pace are crucial steps to take in order for this to happen. I also like to provide historical context and break down the "why" behind songs we work on in terms of music theory and songwriting choices, so that students can truly get a grasp on the entirety of the work rather than simply memorizing notes.

Based on our first lesson, I would highly recommend Becca for a teacher of young kids. She came to the class prepared, was very patient with my son, and left him wanting more and with something to work on. It was a very good experience.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
