I am a pianist and educator originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia! I love to perform, but I am also passionate about educating the next generation of musicians. I studied music very seriously as a child, which led to many performance opportunities in the area and around the world! I have played concerti with several fantastic orchestras, and I greatly enjoy playing chamber music. My most recent job took me around the world performing with a piano quintet. I am so lucky that music is both my passion and my job.
I began teaching private lessons about two and a half years ago, in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. I had students there that ranged in age from five to fifty, and it was such a joy to watch them grow! I am comfortable teaching students of all levels and ages, no one is ever too young or too old to learn an instrument in my opinion. It is very important to me to have parents involved in the learning process, whether that be through observation of lessons or helping out with practice throughout the week.
For all students, our first meeting will be an assessment to figure out where to start! I typically have students begin by playing something they are comfortable with that they enjoy, and we go from there. I am comfortable teaching a variety of methods and like to help the student achieve their individual goals, whatever those may be. I do like to supplement most teaching method books with some kind of scale/etude regimen depending on the level, to round out their practice throughout the week between lessons.
Helping students achieve their specific goals is very important to me! If they are passionate about a particular style of music, composer, or piece, I will help them reach that goal! I am willing to meet them wherever they are musically. I think it is important for the student to work on a variety of styles and pieces at any given time at their level, so they have a diverse musical palette. While I am classically trained, I am open to working on whatever kind of music the student is inspired by.
