I'm a fun, enthusiastic music teacher who enjoys teaching students of all ages. With a degree in music performance from the Cincinnati Conservatory and in acting from the LA City College Theatre Academy, I bring a special skill set and experience level to my lessons. I've been teaching private lessons in the greater Los Angeles area for almost 20 years. My passion is finding a way for each individual student to want to get the most out of their musical education. Sharing the love of music is a vocation that I take very seriously!
I've been teaching in the greater Los Angeles area for almost 20 years, teaching students from ages 4 - 92 (yes, really! 92!). Levels range from beginning to professional, with advanced students having won scholarships and awards. I encourage all of my students to learn the language of music; to learn about their instrument and the best means of expression using that instrument. For the past 8 years, lessons have been supplemented with an annual holiday recital where students have the opportunity to perform, which is an important part of the learning process!
I am very familiar with all of the standard piano methods, and will evaluate the student in the first few lessons to choose a method that they will be the most comfortable with. I supplement all lessons with music theory and outside repertoire, allowing the students to choose from their favorite genres/artists. For theatre, musical theatre, and vocal coaching, I also employ Linklater and Alexander techniques. I also really enjoy exposing students to styles, genres or artists that they might not be familiar with along with the history behind the music they're learning!
I try to have as much fun as possible while still maintaining a high expectiation of performance. I am, by trade and training, a comedian, so jokes and laughter abound. Most of my students might say I'm not as funny as I think I am, but we still have fun! I am, however a stickler for learning the basics of music theory and correct use of vocabulary. Students won't move on to the next level until I know they have a firm grasp of prior concepts. For certain students and parents who respond to it, I do offer incentives and rewards for practicing and lesson performance.
We had the pleasure of having Rebecca as our child's trombone teacher this past year. She is an excellent instructor and connected well on a personsonal level with our daughter age 10. We would highly recommend her as a music instructor.
Rebecca is doing a great job with Hayley. They get along well and Hayley appreciates her sense of humor. I think just the right amount of seriousness, maybe could push a little harder.
Rebecca is full of knowledge and asks just the right questions to make sure my son understands. I am most impressed with her behavior management, which is what my 4 year old son needs the most. Overall, my son is happy and learning.
