BM, Cedarville University, Keyboard Pedagogy
I am a passionate piano instructor who seeks to motivate my students to play their instrument well and naturally. I have been playing since I was 10 years old, and in 2014, I graduated from Cedarville University with a BM in Keyboard Pedagogy. I spent a year in Italy teaching music to children from various backgrounds and cultures. This has been one of the highlights of my teaching career so far and has helped me to grow as a teacher and musician.
I have been teaching privately since 2010 and have been consistently been teaching private lessons since. I was a part of a directed teaching program at Cedarville University where my teaching was observed by peers and professors. I spent a year teaching general music to childern in Italy as well as private piano lessons. I also have experience teaching group classes and entering students in recitals and competitions. It's my goal as a teacher to make sure my students love learning but to also learn to play naturally and confidently. I have always been passionate about teaching and I love being able to help people along their musical journey, whether that's taking private lessons, learning music theory and history, or learning how to compose their own music! I'm always looking for students of any age to either begin a musical experience or to continue where someone left off!
For beginning students who are younger I typically start with Faber and Faber's Piano Adventures. If a student is older I will put them in the accelerated method or the adult method. I will sometimes supplement with Alfred's Premier series or Music Tree. Once a student has progressed to a certian level, I will introduce other piano literature to supplement the method book learning. I try to best fist the goals of my students whether that is starting from the beginning with traditional piano lessons or to achieve some other goal or purpose. My ulitmate goal as a teacher is to provide excellent instruction to allow my students to be well-rounded musicians while learning to enjoy and love music at the same time!
My teaching style varies on my student and how they best learn. I like to make sure all three learning styles are covered in my lessons: visual, aural, and kinesthetic. It's also important that students learn at their own pace. I want to create a desire to learn and a love of playing music so making sure my student is comfortable and learning to the best of their abilities is of upmost importance to me!
