Haverhill High School Band Scholarship 1997

Overview:
I'm an engaged and dedicated instructor who loves to work with kids. I studied music extensively at Clark University in Worcester MA, where I participated in both Jazz Workshop and Jazz combo (Alto and Bari Sax performance). For 7 years I taught private, one on one lessons in the Washington DC area. Specializing in Sax and piano, I taught jazz, classical and rock styles. I also played in several DC area bands including Satori Trova (alto sax, keyboard), Bravenoise (alto sax) and more. I've performed around the Washington, DC area at some of the areas top venues, festivals and events. Here is some feedback I've gotten from past parents: "I frequently recommend her to friends as a fun, young, playful teacher who helps keep young kids interested in learning music." "Her interactions with my children is excellent. She keeps them interested in playing and brings stickers and plays piano based games with them." "We have been working with Regina for three years and have really appreciated her commitment and stimulating vibe with the kids. " "Kids like Regina" "Always on time" "Does a mix of things to keep them interested" "She is not too tough but always makes them work" "She is always here on time!" "Nice person!"
EXPERIENCE
During my 7 years of experience in Washington, DC, I taught over 300 lessons, mostly to children age 4 to 17. I have experience in Jazz, Classical and Rock (improv) styles. I create review games to keep kids engages and interested. I use flash cards/ trivia and prizes to help kids learn basic music theory and notation, and fun interactive exercises to keep my approach low-pressure and fun while stressing the essential elements of thorough music education. Generally my lessons are divided into 3 sections- scales and exercises, songbooks, and fun games or flashcards.
METHODS USED
For children beginner piano I recommend the Bastien series books. The Primer level for kids 5 and under and the level 1 for older child beginners. For level 2 piano and beyond, I recommend "piano adventures" books. For beginner Saxophone I recommend Hal Leonard instruction books. For more advanced sax students, I usually will use a combination of long tone exercises and sax scales while focusing on the students' band curriculum or self-selected songbook. For more advanced Sax players, in addition to school band I usually recommend Real Books. All of my students are assigned scales and exercises as well as songs to practice. I also use flashcards and review games to enforce music theory and notation skills.
LESSON STYLE
I feel it's important to tailor my teaching style to each student. Overall I like to keep a low -pressure, fun approach but am a stickler for the importance of learning traditional scales and exercises as well as proper notation. I don't believe you can fully learn either sax or piano without learning to read music, so I also teach notation skills. For children, I use stickers, tattoos and prizes to keep them motivated and engaged. I usually let students have significant input on their songbooks as well.

She has a great rapor with my K age girl. Keeps it fun, keeps her on track. She's made great progress already in only a few lessons. She breaks up the lessons so she doesn't get bored or down. Regina was the 3rd teacher we tried and definitely we are happy with her! One of the teachers actually said our daughter was too young for lessons, but she's doing great with Regina!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm.
