I am a graduate of the Edna Manley College of the Performing Arts where I studied Music Education. I also have a diploma in Piano Performance and Teaching from the Royal College of Music. I have been an instrumental instructor for the past 25 years, and enjoy sharing the joys of music with learners. I believe that learning to play an instrument should be an enjoyable experience. I acknowledge that all students are different and learn at different paces, so my teaching is tailored to accommodate each student's strengths, weaknesses, likes and preferences.
I had been teaching piano since high school, after which I chose to study music at a conservatory. I have been teaching consistently since my graduation and have had varied experiences. I have taught students from four years to adulthood, at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. I always aim to bring out the best in every student. It is always very important to me, to listen to the student and observe their learning styles, in the initial classes. Throughout my teaching experiences, I have realised and accepted the fact that every student has a vision of what they need from the instrumental class. Once I know what that dream is, I will plan activities to fulfil that dream. If you give them what they like, It will maintain their interest and motivate them to practice.
I am not a teacher who uses specific method books. I use books based on the student's musical preferences or sometimes none at all. A good technique is always emphasized. My area of expertise is Sight Reading. This is an essential aspect of learning to play any instrument. A good sight reader is always able to learn their pieces faster and be better performers. A typical 'first lessons' for beginners is the exploration of the instrument, its tonal qualities, how the instrument works, and the creation of their own music on the instrument. To play well, a student has to be comfortable with the instrument. For Intermediate and Advanced students I accept them where they are and plan activities to help them realize their dream
It is really fulfilling for me to see my students use the knowledge they gain from my instructions to improve their playing level. Effective practice habits are agreed upon between myself and each student. Goals cannot be achieved without effective practice habits. Students are encouraged to participate in their community and school music performance activities, enter competitions and do music examinations. These activities build self-confidence, help students to develop a sense of accomplishment and measure their progress.
Regnarene is a wonderful teacher. She is patient and extremely knowledgeable. She focuses on technique and is very clear in her explanations. I made the right choice. I am learning the clarinet from the very beginning as an adult, and she is moving me along at a pace that works for me.
She is very patient and great with children. My child is learning piano and it is fun for her.
Mrs. Regnarene is an awesome teacher!!! She found musical aids that appealed to my 5 year old daughter and used them to help teach her piano. She has a lot of patience and I could tell she puts in the work before class to have a lesson ready for my daughter. She is always punctual, friendly and respectful. I would recommend her to any parents who want to start their kids off with a good foundation in piano. Jermain T. Riverview, FL
