I began piano lessons in the 2nd grade, and studied flute and guitar, and finally settled on playing French Horn in High School. I took lessons from a horn player in the Detroit Symphony. I majored in French horn and orchestral conducting at the Rubin Academy in Tel-Aviv, Israel, and completed my Undergraduate degree at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. After spending 4 years in Malaysia, where I worked with the Kaleidoscope Ensemble for the Society for Contemporary Music in Malaysia. After returning from Malaysia, I earned a Masters of Music in Orchestral Conducting at Indiana University. Since my early teen years I have also had a passion for dance. I led International folk dance in a youth group, and have been dancing ever since. I am a Contra Dance caller and leader and teach swing dance regularly at Riverside Swings in Ypsilanti. I am also a certified math teacher.
I tailor my teaching to the interest and styles of my students. I put emphasis on teaching all related facets of music as well as focusing on technique. Since moving to Ann Arbor 15 years ago, all of my students have reached the top band in their high schools and most were first chair/section leader by their senior year. Students will be proficient playing scales and arpeggios in all keys. I also focus on good phrasing, articulation and tone. I guide students to play musically and with artistry.
I am passionate about my students and about music. From the outset of working with music students I emphasize the importance of good posture and handling of their instrument, good breathing technique, good embouchure, and regular practice in order to develop strong embouchure and technique and knowledge of their instrument. I love teaching! Whether it is music, dance, math, or anything else I may find myself teaching, I give my all to my students. I also take interest in my students passions and other interests, so as to better connect with eah student.
