Lowndes High School Diploma
Greetings all! My name is Rhys ("Reese"), and I am a very determined and passionate musician and instructor that wants everybody to enjoy music. I am currently working on my Bachelor of Music degree at Valdosta State University. I have performed for years, and it is my goal to play all over the world. Music is one of the greatest things we can experience in life, and it is my goal to assist every individual gain the skill set and understanding that it takes to learn an instrument and perform with a group/band/ensemble. Everybody can learn! It just takes patience and determination!
I have always been fascinated by music, and I was introduced to my first and main instrument when I was about 12 years old: the guitar. My instructing technically goes all the way back to high school when I taught a few friends how to play guitar, but it wasn't until I started college where I truly started to hone my craft. I taught beginner to advanced guitar/bass/ukulele/mandolin/beginner piano/beginner voice for 3 and a half years at Ben Owens Music in Remerton, Georgia. One thing I have learned over the years is that it takes determination on both the student and the instructor's side to progress, but me making the lessons fun and encouraging is a big part of that!
Usually when I have beginning students, I typically begin by going over different exercises to build the strength and dexterity needed to play the instrument. I try to make the experience fun and entertaining by teaching various melodies and songs that can help understand the theory of what we're doing down the road. I try to establish what has inspired the student to pick up the instrument, and what music the student enjoys and wants to play. This allows me to guide the individual down the musical path they wish to take while also making it engaging and fun.
My teaching style varies depending on the person, but progress all depends on the student. It is crucial for every student to learn at their own pace, and weekly goals are set to help the student understand what needs to be done in order to progress. I also encourage students to do their own research and bring whatever questions or concerns to the table. I try to be down to earth and not overbearing, as I have learned that this kind of pressure can lead to negative results. Every student has the ability to learn and progress, and my goal is to pinpoint what inspires you, the student, and help you achieve your goals.
