Overview:

I am Richard W., a Drumming/Percussion, Piano, and Music Theory instructor who lives in Riverside, CA. I have been practicing and performing for 20 years and have played professionally for the past 12 years. I spend my time composing new music that I perform in various venues around the country. I have developed relationships with notable figures in the music industry, including Bernard Porter and Black Violin. Along the way, I have learned valuable lessons that allow me to help developed musicians find their path to a strong career in music. I have advanced marching band/drumline experience, playing each different drum for multiple performances. I have performed in parades and football games, and competitively in settings like the Lucas Oil Stadium and Ross-Ade Stadium. Additionally, I am adept in concert/orchestral performance, having participated in large and small ensembles at Ball State University. I have also played for show choirs and broadway-style orchestra pits, giving me a wide range of abilities that are valuable to any musician.

EXPERIENCE

I began as a private lesson teacher as a young college student. Over the years, I have been a percussion teacher for multiple schools from the elementary to the high school level. I have taught a class of beginner drummers to be a cohesive drumline in less than a school year. I have had many one-on-one students as well, ranging from age 3 to adults as well. My versatile experience helps guide all of my students to reach their goals as a musician and beyond! Whether you just want to learn to play along to your favorite songs, or want to begin your journey as a career musician, I am here to help guide you there.

METHODS USED

For beginner students of drums and piano, we start with the basics. That includes, grasping a solid understanding of common musical terms, and applying them to properly learn to read and play songs. Once a student has a solid grasp of basic music theory, I will begin to challenge them and push them to new heights with new standards, and more challenging pieces to play. When a student has truly become adept, I love to look toward competitions and festivals that will give students that extra push that helps them build motor skills and self-discipline that will be of use in all areas of life.

LESSON STYLE

The most important is to undersrand what a new student's goals are with their music education. I wouldn't want to push someone to do something that they simply aren't interested in, but I usually am able to help someone develop interest in areas that they don't already have an interest in. For example, many beginning drummers are sure that they only have interest in playing drum set for a band. However, after learning the interesting intricacies of how beautiful music is made, many of those students end up wanting to do a xylophone solo later that year!

Truly has been a blessing teaching my little. My son started with piano and has also picked up percussion. Mr. Webb’s patience with young children is unmatched and our son really enjoys his education.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
