Performed live with Sheldon Reynolds (Earth Wind & Fire, The Commodores) Winner of Pro Performance competition at Musicians Institute
Overview:
I am very passionate about music and I love to share music through teaching. I truly love to see people just enjoy and have fun while playing music. I started playing guitar when I was 11 years old and music has been a huge part of my life ever since. In 2012, I graduated from Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, CA, where I lived and worked as a musician and music instructor for 6 years before moving to Denver, CO in November 2016. I have had unforgettable experiences performing, recording, and teaching with amazing musicians from all over the world and I'm very excited to continue my career in Denver.
EXPERIENCE
I started teaching guitar lessons in my hometown when I was 16 years old and was teaching at local music stores when I was 18. After graduating from Musicians Institute, I taught in-home private lessons in Los Angeles. I consistently had a full teaching schedule and gained a lot of experience through teaching students of all ages and skill levels. One of my main goals is to make sure my students are having fun while learning as I believe this is key to maintaining an interest in music and motivation to practice. I encourage my students to listen to all styles of music and I love to hear what they enjoy listening to as well.
METHODS USED
For beginner students, I start with some fundamental basics but I always try to keep the information relatable to each individual student no matter what their skill level. I take a very individualized approach for each student and tailor the lessons just for them depending on what the student is interested in and their skill level. I like to teach by demonstrating information through songs that each student enjoys. The only books I tend to use are empty music books so I can write out specific music and instruction for each student. Having a regular practice schedule is very important so I always write a recap at the end of each lesson so students know what to practice and to keep track of progress.
LESSON STYLE
It is very rewarding to see students develop a passion for music. It will stay with them for the rest of their life and I strive to achieve this with all of my students. I believe it is very important to develop great relationships with my students as it will keep them more motivated and comfortable. I'm an easy going person and I like to keep my lessons relaxed and fun. I always encourage students to show me new music that they discover and all of my students are free to text me any time with questions. I even send quick videos if a student has any confusion outside of our lessons as I always want to make sure my students are confident in understanding the information.
