I am a fun to work with teacher who focuses on the student carefully. I listen well to get a better idea of how my teaching is being received. I graduated from Dematha high school in Hyattsville, MD. While there I won several awards and was a member of both band and chorus programs. I received my Bachelor's Degree from Morgan State University where I was a section leader and arranger for band for 4 years.
I have taught students from the ages 6 to over 30. I have been a student teacher as well as a private teacher. I have written over 10 arrangements for a college band. I have performed numerous recitals and a masterclass. I can and have worked with group lessons as well as private teacher.
For beginning students I normally begin with the basics of making a sound. I focus on the fundamentals once a sound can be produced. I use Hal Leonard's Methods as well as Arbans. I also ask the student what they believe the instrument should sound like.
I approach each lesson differently. I focus on the students' weaknesses and work with them on being more comfortable talking about and facing them. I usually play with the student to ensure that they know I am working just as much as they are. I also do not put intense pressure on students to learn at a tempo; I focus on what makes them enjoy playing and having fun.
