I'm a musician at heart who believes everyone can grow musically. In 2001, I graduated from UMBC with a performance degree in guitar, where I performed individually and in ensembles including genres ranging from Classical to Rock. I've been in professional groups and I've taught in public school since 2003. My performance experience includes venues from the 8X10 in Baltimore City to the MD Conference Center in Ocean City, MD. It believe every student can learn from personalized instruction.
In high school I won the MD Distinguished Scholarship in music performance, which allowed me to pursue a career in music performance. I attended UMBC and completed a music performance degree. Later I earned a degree in Music Education, and have been teaching in public school since 2003. I've taught privately, in after school Guitar Ensembles and Rock n Roll Workshops, as well as Life-Long Learning Classes. My students have gone on to attend Peabody Conservatory and the Berkeley School of Music.
I utilize every instruction manual possible as well as my own experience from 15 years of teaching in the classroom. I am able to differentiate for students with special needs that include developmental delay, accommodation, honors, and gifted. I specialize in classroom instruction as well as private lessons. Depending on student needs and wants, I tailor a specific learning plan to help students progress beyond current skill levels. I make every effort to give students experience in new genres and reinforce knowledge in familiar genres.
I cater to the needs of every student. My enjoyment from music lessons is sparked by the enjoyment of my students. I find the appropriate level of engagement and challenge for every student, and apply strategies and assignments accordingly. I've worked with so many students over the years, that my style is that which is flexible based upon student interest. I am able to teach Classical, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Folk, Pop, and every style in between because I find a way to teach songs that my students like.
