ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

I grew up in New Jersey, about 20 minutes from NYC, with private instructor at home starting in second grade. I started reading and writing music at age seven and continued music studies through college. From my first performance career playing live in 1965, New Orleans, LA, and then entered the 173rd Army Band, for two years and met several nationally famous musicians on the rise to stardom. I have had experience playing performance venues, and I use harmonic music theory addressing chordal scales, rhythm, composition, dexterity, and my own technique on piano with my own printed studies on hamony and technique. I attended College theory courses during two years at Marietta College, studied with Berklee, and Emory University courses. I emphasize lesson plans with the beginning understanding of regulated scales and overtone theory. I have been trained in tuning acoustical pianos and work on repairs, reconditioning, and locate pianos for students. I have worked on fundraising events at multiple venues and concert venues for promoting non-profit organizations. I have training and self-knowledge of computerized keyboards, samplers, and portable stage pianos. The electronic brands I've owned previously with the most familiarity are Wultizer, Fender Rhodes, Ensonique Mirage, Roland, Yamaha, Kurzweil and others.

I have decades of performances with electronic keyboards and technology experience. My performances include as a band leader, arranger, and composer, at present performing live in Oceanside, CA. I work with AI rhythm sections on the Yamaha DGX series arranger keyboards. I have expert programming information in their use, as well experience with ampilfication equipment, building a studio, and teaching digital recording. I prefer Mac Computers, but most are equal in the use of programs in music. Music has been in the forefront of tech for years, advancing through MIDI and USB components. My background includes many decades of studies. I keep a digital library of American music I collect to include World, Blues, Jazz, Folk, Rock, and Legendary works. I am a graphic designer working on vinyl projects for Home of the Blues recordings, featuring the 60s Lost Masters Series.  I created dozens of music videos of the many vintage players recorded with Home of the Blues label.

Awards:

I have created partner events with nationally recognized artists at several non-profit fundraising events: This includes Miners Foundry Cultural Center, Nevada City / Center for the Arts, Grass Valley / Szabo Vineyards, Grass Valley, CA / Woodbridge Winery, Peirano Estate Lodi, CA/ formed with non-profit public musical events. I play at OAW weekly in my local area of Oceanside, CA in San Diego.

Overview:
My personal life includes musical experiences remaining as many lasting memories. I have performed in groups and as a solo pianist/keyboardist and grew up with the internationally best saxophonist, Grover Washington, Jr. I learned sight reading and theory at age seven, headed my HS Recreation Show, and have offered instruction over years. My introduction to performance at dozens of club dates in New York and Bay Area, I attended many of the best venues for jazz and rock, also Monterey Jazz Festival more than five years. As a student meeting many great professionals, I befriended several recording artists and have recorded using many forms of equipment. I have produced music scores for rock, blues and jazz compositions, and I using my own series I emphasize lessons guiding piano or digital keyboard players in learning theory, harmony and rhythm. My musical career began on Frenchman St. in New Orleans. Creating a six-piece group in New Orleans and playing at Jackson Square in the 1960s, we performed roots blues and jazz. After service in the US Army Band and moving to California, I began co-leading music groups, writing out original charts, touring and playing live performances throughout California. I have played smooth jazz background at restaurants. For over 10 years, I led a duo, voice, Latin piano duo with Francisca Gorre, in the Sacramento area. I continue as a solo jazz and blues performer. I'm always a listener and learner incorporating what I hear in music to impart in lessons for students. I have developed courses for learning notation, and I use computer programs outputing individual lessons on theory and harmony. I've traveled and played throughout the country and studied Mississippi Delta and New Orleans styles, San Francisco Rock, New York Jazz, and Broadway. I've met with important players, as well as working with Cultural Center concert promotions and fundraising. After years acquiring various pieces of equipment, sound recordings and digitizing records, I also buy, sell, and convey to anyone interested acquiring a knowledge of American Music roots from its earliest forms to present day. I work as an entrepreneur working on fundraising events at non-profit venues. My website, California Tour and Travel has journalistic previews of entertainment, interviews, books, and photography I use from my experiences in the present. Presently, I've authored seven books on California's diverse landmark history. I keep up to date on the latest and greatest music from pop, world, latin, jazz and blues. I can advise almost anyone interested in piano, computerized or electronic keyboards, how to find the best options and brands available. I program each piano for quick settings and optimal tones. I've tuned, repaired, bought and sold acoustic pianos and keyboards for over 30 years.
EXPERIENCE
I've always had incisive experiences from leading small combos, as learning situations. As arranger working with musicians it's a laboratory to knowing the right groove to create blues, rock or jazz. I extend my years of professional knowledge playing piano complimenting a players' harmonic voicings, rhythmic styles informing band members how to adhere to arrangements for weddings, conventions, clubs, restaurants, wine tastings and a variety of larger venues. I enjoy teaching the youngest less experienced piano enthusiast, especially if there's specific goals or they know of inspirational music or musicians they'd like to emulate. I've found the greatest musicians are really listeners, and it requires concentration to begin early music education, so my system is developed to help individuals find their ear, hear the music they want to play. My best success teaching a novice is after using my theory, the student begins to read their left and right on the music staffs, and relate to how they play using both hands on their keyboard.
METHODS USED
Piano / Keyboard for the Young and Young at Heart, I base lessons on early education I received by learning to read and write music, and on today's computers. I suggest the same Michael Aaron workbook I used for beginning students. I create printed lessons for more advanced students wanting to learn classical, jazz, country, rock, blues, gospel, singing and playing at the same time, comping to accompany a singer or instrumentalist. I offer style varieties rhythmically based on both hands to develop a flexible coordinated approach to playing. My experiences have introduced children as early as seven years to keyboards, and I have taken former music students needing to advance into new materials, specifically training both hands for sight reading music charts or playing by ear. My ability to notate music allows teaching students the tools the trade and art of reading, writing with the disciplines of practice needed for any level. I encourage using sound recordings as an aid to musical advancement to reach goals. By understanding and listening to you and your ideals, we can rely on what you want to hear!  Maybe you've had lessons and would like to get back into it? Study simple chord lessons and add fun reading melody, harmony, rhythm, key signatures, scales, intervals, writing or even recording your own songs. I print out personal lesson plans created by computer geared to each student. Each lesson helps beginners or advanced students with unique lessons. Most student lessons last 45 minutes- and not uncommon up to an hour, and even more at no extra charge. It's a recharge that may require more than a week of practice, so schedule accordingly. My beginning music course has "handout" copies of my lessons to encourage individual students learning theory and sight reading. I use the "Michael Aaron" course for beginners, progressing with new techniques and work borks by John Thompson, covering classical, pop, rock and blues. I start students using Hanon's Vol. 1 exercises and scales, and practicing correct keyboard fingering, velocity, dexterity techniques. I remind students to enjoy, breathe and relax while learning and use discovery with each day to open up more creativity and natural musical talent.
LESSON STYLE
From early to advanced learning, I have had my best experiences allowing students to find their passion in playing by using simple exercises and studies with harmony, melody and rhythm. Let's define musical terms and organize what you'd like to play and study. Music naturally improves concentration and sharpens memory. . . learn to accompany other instruments or play solo. I have experience programming rhythm and sounds on work station keyboards, specifically Yamaha, Casio, Roland and others. My printouts I create are regular double staff piano lessons designed to help advanced students learning theory and chord structures, as well as beginners understanding chords, harmony and rhythm values. I use music programs for writing out my lessons on music paper.
