I am passionate about communicating through music and training others to achieve their full potential as a musician. I have served in twelve different churches over the years as a Minister of Music, and am still serving in that capacity. This has involved directing vocal choirs and ensembles of all ages, directing handbell and handchime choirs, and directing seasonal musicals and pageants. One of my greatest joys is working with individual soloists in preparation for singing in worship services. In 2014, my wife and I built a home in the Alliance area of North Fort Worth. My studio is located in our home.
My teaching experience dates back to the early 1990's when I taught as an Adjunct Voice Instructor at Frank Phillips College in Borger, TX. I found this to be a fulfilling and rewarding experience as I taught freshman and sophomore voice students the fundamentals of proper vocal production through the learning of appropriate repertoire. There were student voice recitals at the end of the semester. One of my college students has credited me with inspiring her to pursue a career in music ministry. Additionally, I have had occasion to teach individual soloists through serving as a Minister of Music in various churches.
Most of the students I've taught have had a background in music through singing in choirs, etc. Other students have had a limited musical background. At whatever the ability level or background, I always try to introduce appropriate solo repertoire to which the student can relate, as well as introducing songs that will aid in teaching proper vocal technique and proper diction. If the student needs additional training in music theory, I gladly incorporate that into the lesson. It is a always a joy to help others achieve their musical potential!
Since each student begins and progresses at a differing pace, I strive to create realistic goals for each student at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments along the way always help to improve their desire to learn more. My goal is for the student to enjoy the learning experience as much as I enjoy the teaching experience! This, in turn, leads to a student's increased self confidence as a musician. Performing in a recital or other venue reinforces the student's progress and ability to communicate through music.
