Overview:
I am an active performer an educator based in NYC. I have a deep relationship with the Electric and Acoustic Bass, and the Guitar. My relationships with these instruments have encouraged my to study and perform many genres of music. During my studies at Berklee, I had the opportunity to delve into many different aspects of music. My primary focuses were in performance and music education, though I also pursued writing/arranging, music business, and music history. I've had the wonderful opportunity to study with some of the leading names in the music world, some of them are - John Patitucci, Joe Lovano, Goerge Garzone, Kenny Werner, John Lockwood, Eddie Gomez, Oscar Stagnaro, Fernando Huergo, and more.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching Private Lessons since 2008. I began in California (where I am from), teaching guitar and electric bass to younger kids in the high school and middle school I went to. Then in 2010 I went to Berklee to focus on my studies, developing my skills in performance and in education, while always performing and teaching privately on the side. Since Berklee, I have given clinics and masterclasses in numerous countries, and deepened my love for teaching and my methods.
My love for both teaching and performing is truly a rare combination, and one that I believe breeds the most apt teacher. I have performed in a number of prestigious halls domestically and internationally, including: The Detroit jazz festival, Bogui Jazz club (madrid, ES) Jimmy Glass (Valencia, ES), The Rex (Tornonto) Carnegie Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, Berklee Performance Center, and more.
METHODS USED
"The art of teaching is the Art of assisting discovery" - Mark Van Doren
My teaching method is always geared towards to my students goals. I know that the best teacher is able to identify what exactly needs to be paid attention to in your playing to take you to the next level. With these ideas in mind, the lesson are built from a combination of what the final goals are, and what needs to be developed to get there. From there we find exercises and studies that will lead us in the direction of these goals. This keeps things relevant and exciting for both me and the student. This approach is also applicable to the beginner and to the advanced student, in any style.
LESSON STYLE
I make sure that my students have not only a complete understanding of the instrument, but also of the music that they are playing. This is vital in the making of a well-rounded musician. Whether or not you are in your own band, school band, studying classical music or playing jazz, developing your musicianship and understanding of music will take you to new heights. It is important to me to give my students the tools to develop their own music, bass lines or guitar parts, improvisations, interpretations, and creative voice.
