I'm a passionate motivated instructor who likes to work with kids and adults of all ages. I like to connect with the student and find the best path to achieve their musical goals. I like to try to inspire the students by finding some sounds or music that will make them want to pick up the instrument and play. I play a variety of styles, ranging from Classical music to Heavy Metal, including, light/ classic rock, pop, folk, country, and jazz. Acoustic or electric. I can give the student all the tools and general knowledge and the ability to play music from notation, TAB, or by ear, with helpful tricks and tips I have gleaned from 30+ years of experience playing, writing and recording.
For the last thirty-plus years my passion has been music. I read magazine articles and books on music theory. I compile lessons from various sources, to create personalized lesson material for each individual student. I’m currently taking advanced lessons myself, and teaching 2-5 students weekly. I have been writing, recording, studying, and performing music consistently, for over twenty years. I have intermittently taught private guitar lessons over the same time period. I studied music theory for one year in College, took private lessons, and taught myself ever since. I have also taught private guitar lessons with children steadily over the past three years.
With beginning children I usually start with Mel Bay Children's Guitar Books to get familiar with some basics and some easy kids songs. But experience has showed me one size does not fit all. I try to find a suitable book for each student to work from to use as a structured plan or path of development. I often utilize other elements in addition to the initial book, such as theory, chords, scales, and ear training. I may recommend songs for learning or help the student figure out their favorite songs. Whatever the age or skill level I connect with the student to figure out their goals and help them find the path to those goals. If they're unsure, I can make some recommendations...
I have often received complements from my students’ parents, thanking me for my passion in teaching and that they noticed great improvement in their child’s playing. I have fun with the children but also encourage discipline, concentration, and constant effort for improvement. I like to connect with each student and try to find a way to inspire them to want to play music. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress. So I tell them when they are doing a good job, and if things are going rough I may have to find something they can have more fun and success with.
