"Emerging Artist of 2018" named by Symphony Magazine

Overview:

I am a musician who has learned to teach from studying with some of the world's finest cellists. Over my years of studying cello, I have crafted my own style of teaching geared towards each individual student. One of my main goals as a teacher is to figure out how to teach my students based on their unique goals and backgrounds. I have performed for decades as a classical musician throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. Over the years have expanded my playing and teaching to rock, jazz and many other styles. You can find me on stage with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra or the Trans-Siberian Orchestra....Michael Bublé or the band Disturbed. These experiences have guided my teaching for thse students wishing to go beyond classical cello playing.

EXPERIENCE

I have taught private lessons for many decades. My first studio was at the Preparatory Department at my undergraduate conservatory. It was there I discovered the joy of teaching and continued to seek out teaching opportunities. I have held several adjunct college positions and have also taught students between age 6-60. Over the past few years, I have honed my online teaching skills in order to make virtual lessons just as effective as in-person. I am currently teaching both in-person and online cello students.

METHODS USED

. At my students' first lessons, I get an idea of their unique skill sets. Even with my beginners, I can tell what musical abilities they may naturally have. From there, I talk to the student about their goals for cello playing. Some may want strictly classical music training and others may want to expand into current popluar music or jazz. Once we establish a direction, I can assign appropriate method books and pieces that will put them on the right path to reach their musical goals. Everyone, though, must learn their scales! Scales are the backbone of all music! I will always include these types of rudiments to assure my students have the skills to beautifully and skillfully play the music they enjoy.

LESSON STYLE
Your swift progress to become the best cello player you can be is my number one priority! We will work together to create lessons based on what music you want to play. I will always teach the rudiments of cello playing, but partner with my students to learn music they love. I also guide students on how to practice between lessons. We will work together to create a practice regimen and schedule that is sure to pay off while fitting into your busy schedule. The combination of regular lessons and a consistent at-home practice schedule is the key to making your cello sing! Let's get started!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
