Music Major West Texas State A&M 1981 - 1983

Awards:

Texas All State Music Percussionist - 1980 Soultone Cymbal Artist - 2016 Drummer for Well-Known Strangers

Overview:

I'm a blessed man who has a talent I don't deserve, and I adore sharing with others. My recent acceptance as an Artist Endorser for Soultone Cymbals, is an honor indeed! I love Drum Workshop drums and hardware. I'm fortunate enough to share my skills with a band called Well-Known Strangers, and volunteer on the Great Lakes Church music team,. My studio is located in my residence. We will focus our time on your wishes since it's your skills we are developing. Monthly progress charts will be available. I insist on my students committing to practicing a minimum of one hour a day. Metronome work will also be required.

EXPERIENCE

I began teaching when I moved to Wisconsin in 1990. I had twelve students I taught at the Music Go Round studio and three students I taught in their home. I attended West Texas State University (now A&M) in Canyon Texas from 1981 - 1983. In 1983, I decided to pursue a professional music career and tour with bands. After moving to Nashville in 1986, I was quickly humbled by the amazing talent out there and kickstarted my education again. I took private lessons from local teachers and worked with Larrie London, but was cut very short due to his passing. I married in 1989 in Nashville, and moved to Wisconsin in 1990 (my ex-wife was a native Wisconsinite). I'd love to get back on the teaching circuit and share the awesome talent God has given me.

METHODS USED

We will use our first lesson together to see where your skill level is and if you read music. We will talk about your goals and how you intend to apply your developed skills. GOALS will be set and reviewed. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!! If you don't intend to practice a minimum of one hour a day to hone your skills, please don't waste our time and your hard earned money! Very few musicians are virtuosos and can pick up an instrument day one! I require metronome skill practice...you are expected to have excellent meter as a Percussionist! For beginners, I'll want to teach basic music reading and rudiments on the snare drum along with Metronome. Did mention you'll need to PRACTICE...with the metronome:-) Experienced and Advanced students will tell me what they want to be taught. We will then develop a plan to challenge your skills. Everything from Snare drum, Hand Percussion, Orchestral Percussion, and the ever popular Kit skills are available. I can even get you started on double kick work (if you looking to play like Slipknots drummer, I'm not your man) I can also teach Mallet Percussion to beginners. (Piano skills required)

LESSON STYLE

I'm a very passionate coach and will teach you how to teach yourself. There will be lessons where we will pick a skill you want to learn and you will teach me how to develop that skill. Retention is paramount while learning. I've found that your ability to retain information is dramatically increased if you teach the information to others...as high as 80% (average is 40%), thats double. If I can motivate you to learn and you become passionate about your craft, I can learn from you as well. Artist take all styles and study different artist to develop their technique. We will ALWAYS use a Metronome for practice...if you don't own one, get one...It's required.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
