Overview:
I am a very passionate and motivated instructor for not only music but trumpet as well. Im originally from New Mexico and began my career as a professional musician in 2015. I began playing the trumpet in middle school and haven't stopped since. Traveling has been one of the great joys of my time as a musician. I've recently moved to Boston and had the wonderful honor and pleasure to work with great students, great teachers and amazing musicians from not only all over the country but all over the world.
EXPERIENCE
I was fortunate enough to begin teaching private lessons part time while in high school. Within the last few years I have had the pleasure of teaching students on a consistent basis. I encourage all of my students to practice regularly as learning music is a process and takes time to develop like any other skill. I have learned through many different teaching situations how to keep a student motivated through hard work while having fun! I try to find ways to help my students learn and have a passion for the instrument as I do.
METHODS USED
I believe there is no "cookie cutter" method to teaching so I tailor my lessons specifically to each of my students. I have found that having a strong foundation in classical music sets the tone for musical excellence for all styles, regardless of age or musical maturity. From that perspective I like to start all of my students on The Arban's and Herbert L. Clarke Method books for trumpet. As we progress, I will add other method books/repertoire that emphasize what the student wants to learn or to highlight an area the student or I think could use improvement. In addition, I also like to Promote a "hands-on" approach to teaching so to speak. I think Playing with students is beneficial and to an extent a must when it comes to learning music. I also strongly encourage my students to enter competitions and/or recitals to give their playing some direction. Besides, one of the most enjoyable aspects of music is sharing it with others!
LESSON STYLE
Watching my students develop a passion for music is one of the most rewarding things a teacher could ask for. To that end it is important that each student progresses at their own pace. Most importantly its important that all of my students leave their lessons knowing more than when they walked in! I will always set realistic goals and expectations for all my students. It's also important that my students have their accomplishments recognized as it encourages them to keep trying to get better and I will constantly push them to do that. At the end of the day it is about the student and what will help them progress and keep things fresh, interesting, and fun for them.
