I am passionate about all facets of music and music education. I am motivated by my students, learning from them how best to instruct them and act as a guide through the universe of music. I am from a family of musicians having grown up in the culture of musical performance on both my mother and fathers side. I graduated from SUNY Empire State with a Bachelors in Music Performance with a concentration in Bass and Piano. I have had the honor and privilege to play for over 300+ Off-Broadway productions as well as numerous Big Bands and other ensembles as an upright Bass player. I am a soundtrack composer, pop artist and have authored several full length musicals.
I have been teaching privately since 1989, teaching piano and bass at 15 years old. Thirty years later I have become a multi-instrumentalist playing Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Electric Bass, Latin Baby Bass, guitar, piano, synthesizer, keyboard and voice. I have a vast knowledge of classical and modern works and am comfortable transcribing modern compositions for my students. Music is my life and I teach with an infections optimism for all things music. I have taught ages 4 to 75 and I believe that it is never to late to do what you love!
For adolescent beginner piano students I recommend 'John Thompson's Earliest Piano Course'. In this series Books I-III build a strong base upon which a student can specialize in different genre and styles graduating from book III. For adult students beginning I would suggest John Thompon's Adult (or Modern) Piano Course. The pacing of this book is far more accelerated and more in keeping with an adult pace to work with. Adult students can opt to go to the next book in the series (Book II and III of the 'modern' piano course).
For String students I am comfortable in the 'Essential Elements' series, 'String Builder' series and 'All for Strings' methods as an excellent base with which to start.
For Guitar Students I am a fan of 'Alfred's Basic Guitar Method' Books 1-3.
For Bass guitar students I prefer 'Mel Bay's Bass Guitar Method.
For all string students I am also an advocate of the Suzuki Series for Violin, Viola and Cello. For advanced Bass players I am an advocate for F. Simandl's method.
