Overview:
I graduated from Boston University with a degree in Music, and am certified to teach music in Massachusetts public schools (K-12). I have been giving private piano lessons to both children and adults for over 10 years. I have extensive and varied experience teaching music to young people. I completed training in Music Together, a music and movement program for young children, and have created Music & Movement sessions for children with special needs. In addtion I have experience as a musical director at a summer camp.directed the musical program at the New Hampshire summer camp Tel Noar. As a professional musician I have performed a variety of music including standards, jazz, country, blues, and klezmer, on both piano and accordion in a wide variety of venues including: - cruise ships - weddings and other functions - cocktail lounges - folk festivals - shows
EXPERIENCE
I have been giving private piano lessons to children and adults for over 10 years. It is extremely gratifiying and rewarding to see students grasp concepts and learn to play. My lessons extend beyond just learning to play a piece of music. I also discuss theory and harmony when appropriate as we learn new music. I encourage improvising and email links to various performers in a variety of genres.
METHODS USED
Lessons are flexible and tailored to each student's needs and are focused on what the student wants to learn, or what the parents want the student to learn. Lessons include: - scales - arpeggios - sight reading - theory - ear training - lead sheets - chords - improvisation Students are encouraged to listen to music, and I provide both a listening list and links to videos.
LESSON STYLE
I have an eclectic style of teaching and may use different methods for different students. I want my students to be able to understand music and be able to play long after our lessons are over. I discuss theory and harmony as we work on different pieces. I usually end lessons by improvising along with students, or doing ear training games, which both children and adults love.
