Diploma, Guitar Performance, LA Music Acadamey
2012 Certificate of Achievement Student Tutor
I am a recent graduate of the LA Music academy. I've taught guitar for a few years now. I really discovered my passion for teacher while attending the LA Music academy, where I donated my time to struggling students. I am an accomplished singer/songwriter with multiple recordings. I play many instruments, and have accompanied and played with very accomplished musicians during my college years.
I love teaching the art of music. I get very excited when I see a student switch on to a new technique or idea that I've helped them realize. Most of my lessons have been for beginners who just wanted to get started to novice players who wanted to learn more. Guitar is a fun instrument with many applications and methods a player can use. I strive to bring those methods into my lessons so that my student gets the most out of their musical experience. During college I felt the need to pass on everything I was learning to those who needed it, be it just getting started, or learning how to improvise over jazz changes, I love teaching and playing music of any kind.
I start my beginning students off with technique. I like to get the strumming hand going and the fretting hand making chords as soon as possible. Soon after that we get into scales and songs! One of the best ways to learn is from your favorite songs. I customize my lessons for the goals the student has in mind. But for the most part I want the lessons to be fun and informative. Playing music is challenging but fun. I strive to get my students past the playing challenges so the fun may follow. And as any other teacher will tell you practice makes perfect. I encourage my students to practice as much as they can.
We all approach and learn at different levels and paces. I watch my students growth on an individual basis. That being said, I set goals and give assignments that are achievable. I do enjoy letting the student pick a song they want to learn and going over the song together. But I also bring in my own exercises and knowledge in site reading, music theory, harmony, practice methods and proper technique. My approach to beginners is more systematic when getting started. I use a more organic style with my novice students.
