Overview:
Hi, I'm Ronn. I have lived in New York City for years working Off-Broadway, and now travel back and forth consistently between NYC and OKC, and also teach in Los Angeles regularly. A working member of Actors Equity, some of my credits include national television, independent film (Soho International Film Festival Official Selection), New York concert stage (Carnegie Hall concerts with Kelli O'Hara and Stephen Sondheim) and Off-Broadway theatre. Oklahoma Theatre credits include appearances with Lyric Theatre, CityRep, Reduxion Theatre, Carpenter Square, and Sooner Theatre.
EXPERIENCE
I've taught in New York City, Los Angeles, and Oklahoma since 2009. In New York City, I teach theatre technique at a musical theatre school. In Los Angeles, I teach Alba Technique at an Actor's Workshop. In Oklahoma, working with children, I've taught ages 6-adult, directing musical and theatrical productions like Grease, Les Miserables, Much Ado About Nothing, and The War of the Worlds. I also teach acting - theatrical, classical, and on-camera - and approach singing from a "storytelling first" approach.
METHODS USED
For younger students, I always want to make sure our lessons stay fun, while encouraging growth at the same time, so I usually let them pick a song they like, and then I assign another to assist with their musical development. For older students and adults, we really dive into technique and vocal health, with a strong emphasis on technicalities like breath support and placement, and then use that foundation to branch out into multiple genres. Italian arias, classic musical theatre, contemporary rock - all are valid forms of musical expression and I believe singers should be equipped with the tools to tackle each genre with competence and flair.
LESSON STYLE
I always start with a strong Classical Foundation, and also specialize in Musical Theatre and Contemporary Styles. Some students love classical music, and we work on Italian arias...while others love 80s Metal Bands, and we work on healthy ways to approach contemporary music. For Musical Theatre, I make sure my students have a wide range of genres at the ready, so they are equally prepared to audition for both My Fair Lady or Hamilton. I value technique, and students learning technique in their own bodies, so they're able to excel on their own after our work together.
