Overview:
Teaching piano is my passion. I have my AA degree in Music Education with an emphasis in creative performance and also have my bachelors degree in Music Education. I have served as chairman of the National Guild of Piano and I currently have a studio of 30 students. When I'm not teaching, I play at North Hialeah Baptist Church in Hialeah, and play in my band, "Sunset Worship". I love giving 2- 4 recitals throughout the year and love performing with my students. I can teach all levels of piano from beginners to advanced.
EXPERIENCE
I started teaching shortly after getting my Diploma from the National Guild of Piano. I started teaching part-time in college and eventually started teaching full time once I had finished. I teach all levels and all ages but I love teaching the little ones. I use a lot of games in my teaching to make piano learning fun. I use flash cards, timers, stickers, and prizes to reward my best students. I like giving my students challenges to finish and so far the ongoing favorite is the "30 Piece Challenge" and the "Karate scale Challenge" at my studio. If students finish the 30 pieces (short pieces) then they get a prize and if they learn their scales (karate scales) I make them a special belt to show off to their friends and families as a prize.
METHODS USED
My philosophy is if it isn't fun; nobody wants to do it. My method of teaching provides simple psycology in making praticing fun. The piano needs to be praticed every day if the student wants to progress! For Children I teach pop and classical piano, where as adults I try to find out why they want to play and what style of music they would like to play. Many adults don't desire to be a concert pianist but, If you'd like to play for fun; maybe play at a party to entertain your guests and you would like to play popular music; there's a class specialized for that.
LESSON STYLE
What I like to do in my studio is, set realistic goals for the student. I use "challenges" to help students achieve their goals. And reward them when they achieve them. I like using a lot of games as well to make piano learning fun. So I teach a lot of theory aspects using games with timers, and flash cards, dry erase dices and prizes when goals are meant. Some of my student favorites are the 30 piece challenge, Karate Scale challenge, speedy finger challenge and much more. I'm always coming up with fun ways to teach something new in each lesson.
