I am a passionate and eager musician and music teacher! For years, music has taken over my life and I am excited to begin to share that joy with others. I am a sophomore Music Education major who has already taken dozens of music and education classes. I have participated in activities such as Concert bands, marching bands, Showchoir, and Concert choirs. I have been taking a variety of music lessons for many years now. I am familiar with many different genres of music, but I spend most of my time playing classical and rock.
I am a very new teacher without very much experience. I understand this may be concerning to prospective students, but I assure you I am committed to being a great teacher for you or your child! I have been taking music lessons for many years on many instruments and I finally feel as though I am ready to teach others. Although I am new to this, I already know that teaching music is my calling, so I’m excited to begin my teaching journey here on Musika! I am a member of the Alabama Music Educators Association, Alabama Educators Association, and the National Association for Music Educators.
The most important first step is to have a conversation about what the student's goals are. Together we can come up with a game plan to achieve these goals! For beginning students, we will start by working through a beginner's method book, but I will supplement with my own materials. My first priority is to get the student playing music that they enjoy as early as possible! I will come prepared to every lesson with an individualized lesson plan, assignments, music that are tailored to each student's goals!
I prefer to focus on the joy of making music and the satisfaction of learning through accomplishment! In order to achieve this, I will try my best to keep lessons upbeat (pun intended), fast paced, and fun! Especially for younger students, I will use games and interactive activities to keep the student engaged, although I do believe games are good for the soul at all ages. I will give detailed feedback to students and teach the student at whatever pacing works best for them. Setting goals and celebrating successes, even the small ones, is the most important job that I can have, and by doing so will help keep you or the student motivated!
