I am a singer, songwriter, and musician who is passionate about passing on the joy and beauty of music to others. I am graduating in May 2019 from University of Northwestern-St. Paul with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Worship Arts. Over the years I have performed with choirs in Europe and New York City, performed in orchestras and concert bands, and have been performing my original music in Omaha at various venues since 2015. I am currently completing a worship internship at Citylight Benson Church in Omaha, NE and teaching lessons at the 402 Arts Collective.
I have taken private guitar and piano lessons since 2003 and have implemented a lot of the styles I was exposed to in the teaching that I have done since 2017. I typically travel to my students' homes, but I have space to teach in my apartment studio as well. Music is one of the greatest gifts we are able to hold in this life and I want to make sure that each one of my students gets to experience it in the deep and meaningful ways that I have. Balancing between discipline and having fun is essential when I am teaching my students. I hope to bring the joy of music to students of all ages!
For students who already have the groundwork of the instrument, I typically move forward with whatever they are interested in learning and what would make them feel more accomplished. For beginner students, I typically start them out in the Fast Track Guitar 1 book just to get them comfortable with the instrument, proper technique, basic music theory, etc. Additionally, I always implement scales into the lessons, no matter the age or skill level. But no matter what, I consistently check with the student to hear what they are wanting to learn, keeping them inspired and having fun.
I always want my students to have a very positive experience taking lessons and never to feel as if there is too much pressure put on them. Every student is different so I don't have a specific teaching formula. I always ensure that the student is moving at a comfortable pace for them while still being challenged and learning new things. I am always quick to acknowledge every small bit of progress that they make and focus on the positives rather than the negatives. As I get to know the student more I am able to shape my teaching around what will cause them to succeed.
