With a lifelong passion for music deeply ingrained in my soul, my journey has been a symphony of diverse experiences and unwavering dedication. From the very moment I could utter a note, singing has been my most authentic form of expression. Over the past two decades, my fingers have danced across ivory keys, amassing a wealth of knowledge through my 20-year piano odyssey. My musical voyage has encompassed a rich tapestry of styles, from the structured elegance of classical compositions to the vibrant narratives of musical theatre and the harmonious unity of choral singing. As a composer, I have woven my melodies into the intricate fabric of musical landscapes. Guiding aspiring vocalists and actors, I take immense pride in having nurtured talents that have graced regional, Off-Broadway, and even illustrious Broadway productions. My passion for continuous growth fuels my love for learning, propelling me to higher octaves of understanding. For the past two years, I have been privileged to wield my expertise as a music director, vocal coach, and conductor within the embrace of the Actors Equity Association theatres, solidifying my place in the heart of the music world.
My musical journey has been a harmonious tapestry woven with dedication and devotion. From my earliest days in elementary school, I found solace and inspiration in the embrace of choirs, their collective voices resonating with my soul. My fascination with instruments took root at the age of 10, when I embarked on a melodious voyage with the flute, each note becoming an integral part of my musical identity. The piano, a lifelong companion since the tender age of 3, has been both a canvas for creativity and a vessel for emotion. My vocal aspirations led me to traverse the realms of high school and college, where I delved into voice classes and lessons, honing my craft with each passing melody. Since 2021, I have been orchestrating the musical narratives of High School, collegiate, and regional productions as a music director and vocal coach, infusing them with the essence of my experience. Whether through virtual realms or face-to-face interactions, my passion for teaching has culminated in nurturing aspiring talents since 2020, breathing life into the dreams of those who seek to share in the magic of music. Central to my musical odyssey is an unwavering love for teaching, an artistry that allows me to illuminate the path for others as they uncover their own musical narratives. Guiding students towards discovering their unique voices and finding their rightful place within the symphony of the musical world brings me immeasurable joy. Witnessing the transformative journey of a novice blossoming into a confident performer, and empowering them to embrace their potential, is a gratification that fuels my musical spirit. With each note, each chord, and each interaction, I am reminded of the profound impact music can have on shaping lives, and I am resolutely committed to nurturing this resonance in others.
In my approach to teaching music, I believe in establishing a strong foundation while tailoring my methods to meet each student's individual developmental stage and unique aspirations. When teaching piano, I place a dual emphasis on music theory and practical application, ensuring that students comprehend the language of music while exploring the tactile world of the keys. Beginning with theory provides a solid framework upon which to build, gradually transitioning into playing simple songs that resonate with the student's current abilities. This approach allows for a seamless progression, accommodating the student's pace and fostering a sense of accomplishment. For vocal instruction, I embark on a comprehensive journey of discovery, employing a diagnostic test to discern essential elements such as range, tessitura, style preferences, vocal registration, timbre, and goals. Armed with this invaluable insight, I meticulously craft a personalized curriculum that resonates with the student's unique vocal identity. Our musical voyage takes flight with the exploration of carefully selected songs, typically incorporating two of the student's choices and one from a curated list of options I believe align with their growth trajectory. To enhance their musicality and ear training, I introduce the transformative world of solfège through the enchanting Kodály hand signs, weaving together theory and practicality into a harmonious blend. This holistic approach not only fosters technical proficiency but also nurtures a profound connection between the student and their musical expression.
My teaching style is a harmonious blend of empathy, encouragement, and unwavering commitment to growth. I firmly believe in meeting students at the intersection of their developmental, physical, and emotional capacities, fostering an environment where they can thrive. While I challenge my students to reach for their utmost potential, I am acutely attuned to their current capabilities, never pushing them beyond their limits in the moment. Building a strong rapport is foundational to my approach, as I recognize that trust and mutual understanding are key components of a successful learning journey. I embrace a philosophy of grace, understanding that life's demands can sometimes disrupt practice routines. While I am compassionate about accommodating busy schedules, I hold space for accountability, recognizing that genuine effort is essential for progress. My teaching is a delicate dance, finely tuned to the unique needs of each student, inspiring them to achieve, while offering support and guidance along the way.
