Overview:
I'm a "Teaching Violinist". Being a full-time string instructor in Evansville, Indiana is a joy; I get the pleasure of sharing my passion for music with the community in which I was raised. I teach instruments such as violin, viola, and cello to students of ALL ages! I've been playing violin for 24 years. I absolutely love my job! I also perform at both private and public events, providing musical entertainment for clients all over the Tri-state area. I provide musical performance for events such as: Weddings Funerals Rehearsal dinners Bridal lunches / showers Anniversary parties Corporate functions Fundraising events Cocktail parties, etc. I AM accepting new students, for both the violin and cello. I teach lessons both at my home OR my student's home. All ages and skill levels are welcome!
EXPERIENCE
I started playing the violin when I was 7 years old after my mother’s passing. It was my outlet, and has continued to be my creative outlet for expressing myself in a positive light. I worked very hard to get to this point in my career, and it’s not for the faint of heart. I spent many hours practicing my craft. I studied under the most difficult, yet fantastic instructors around the area. I’m blessed, but not from privilege. I’m blessed because I took a gift and allowed it to grow into a beautiful way of spreading joy to other people!
METHODS USED
Depending on the students level, I will focus on a certain range of scales to build strength. The first few lessons are spent learning about one another and giving/getting feedback on what the student liked or didn't like. This is very important to me, as I want to establish long-standing musicians! I also try to establish a vocal goal each month. We will then gradually increase that range while working on songs for a show, an upcoming gig, that big recital, or just for fun! I recommend working on songs that showcase your voice, and I of course will help choose songs I feel would highlight my students ability. As an instructor I want to be able to inspire my students to grow as much as possible!!!
LESSON STYLE
I want my students to have fun and enjoy themselves during our time together, but I also want to help them discover the courage and confidence within them that will help turn their lessons into lifetime expressions of beauty and freedom. I believe in encouraging students and praising them for good work, but I'm not afraid to point out things that need work. I expect them to practice and they will grow much faster if they work on their own. Part of my lesson times include teaching how to practice. However, I will always find a way to make the most out of an opportunity with a student. I'd rather spend time helping them learn how to express themselves with freedom and skill. When learning a specific task or skill, I use modeling in my teaching style. I will give examples the student examples they can imitate; however, I firmly believe that students should not just imitate but they should bring their own light to their music! I am still finding myself musically, but I have 24 years worth of knowledge and passion I can share to help others find their musical spirit and embrace it!
