Bachelor Degree: Mills College
Flora Boyd prize for best piano performance in 2006
Mills College Eucalyptus Scholarship 2002-2006
I am a motivated music professional with experience in piano performance and teaching. I am interested in teaching piano to various students of all ages and abilities. I have a BA in piano performance from Mills College in 2007. I have been learning the piano since I was six years old with various teachers from all over the world. I have a great love of music of all types from Classical to Pop to Rock. I have two teaching studios for your convenience and I can offer online lessons as well! I hope you will enjoy your lessons with me!
I have teaching experience since I started working on my BA in piano. I have taught adults as well as children of all levels. I have taught in music schools as well as in my private studio. My students are encouraged to practice because they love playing the piano not because they have to! I use instructional books as well as fun games to teach important concepts. I also ask students what pieces or genre of music they would like to play so that we can work on that as well. I strive for a fun lesson every time.
For beginning students (children) I use the Piano Adventures books by Faber also with a notespeller and possibly some Hanon exercises. For beginner adults I use the adult beginner Piano Adventures, notespeller, and Hanon. So for any student there is a combination of music theory, finger exercises, and learning how to play and enjoy piano music. Once my student becomes more advanced I will encourage them to play short classical pieces such as a waltz or prelude, or a piece of music of their choice.
My teaching style can be adjusted to each particular student. Some students take piano lessons for relaxation, others are wanting to pursue a career in music. I can teach for both styles or even a combination of both styles. I set goals for each week that is provided in the piano homework or play work that I assign. I find this works very well. I have a very calm approach to my teaching and do not force things to work or happen. I like to share my love of music to my students and encourage them to visit local concerts as well.
Mrs. Samidheni S. is an excellent instructor who not only teaches solid basic technique, but she also observes the student, noticing their strengths and interests. With these great observations, she is able to cater lesson plans that grab the student’s attention and encourages them to learn concepts thoroughly. Particularly with younger children, Mrs. Samidheni S. is able to keep the child’s focus on the music while simultaneously making it fun and light hearted. She is a patient and deeply involved teacher who strives to share her passion for music with her students.
