Bachelor Degree: Texas State University
I play electric guitar and studied jazz music degree at Texas State University. I played Rock and some Metal music during my first couple years of guitar learning; however I went into Jazz field in college which also gave me some experience at some Latin music. I'm passionate at overall guitar field; not only play guitar but also involve Luthier field. I had experienced own made electric guitar and played it on stage; and now currently work as a Luthier assistance in a guitar shop to work on guitar repair and guitar build.
I had few teaching experience in the past; all of them are beginner students. I am currently working on my own teaching curriculum and materials. I have come up my own way to approach teaching music theory to students because traditional way of music theory teaching in school is too vague for most beginner students. Since I am experienced on guitar build and repair; I also know how to help out my students to repair or take care their own instruments. Overall, I got some unique way to help out my students.
For beginners, I will start with teaching basic knowledge about the "Guitar", then teaching some basic playing mechanic for hands to practice and warm up. After that, I will start teaching some basic theory along with playing examples which makes sure that the students will understand what they are playing and know how music works and how to use it. The goal is able to play open chords, bar chords, power chords, scales and being able to apply those to simple pop and rock to basic level in two month. After that, teach more focus detailed playing skills for certain music styles for couple months to boost up physical playing ability. Then teach more music theory with more advanced playing examples.
My teaching style is to observe each students background. I tend to try approach each student with their own "Language" to make them more easily to understand music theory concepts. Just like what I mentioned before, pure music theory is vague to most people; so I do make examples of implied meaning from other field to make the student catch the logic in their own field knowledge. I do supervise my students' physical playing gestures because some physical gestures does effect on playing efficiency. I had a strict guitar teacher at the first place; then, all my guitar instructors in college complimented my physical finger movements when I play.
