I'm a passionate trumpet instructor who, more than anything, enjoys teaching others and spreading the greatness of music. In 2021, I graduated from Clovis West High School with the desire to become a music teacher and more specifically to teach trumpet lessons. I am currently attending Clovis Community College and plan on transferring to Fresno State to pursue a degree in music education. Also at this time, I have the pleasure to perform in the Fresno Community Band and be a part of the musical fraternity Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
Although I have not had any official students, I have taught a handful of my fellow peers throughout my years as a trumpet player. I have learned a magnitude of techniques and different approaches from the numerous and excellent trumpet teachers that I have taken lessons from and I hope to relay some of this information to my own students as well as my own ideas and thoughts. The most important thing that I have learned from taking lessons for over 6 years is that in order to be a great teacher you must be a great learner.
For beginner students, I will start by first teaching them the basic techniques of trumpet playing(i.e. proper breathing, posture, instrument holding, and buzzing techniques). After going through the basic techniques of trumpet playing, I will have my student work out the Sound Innovations for Concert Band method book. Once my student completely learns the first Sound Innovation method book and gets a grasp over the fundamentals of trumpet playing, I will introduce them to trumpet exercise books such as the Vizzutti, Arbans, and Clarke books among others to build upon the fundamental techniques that they have already developed. At the same time, I will also be introducing common solo repertoire that will be useful for their auditions or performances.
My teaching style is very meticulous and detail oriented in order to assure that my students avoid developing bad habits that will effect their playing in the future. I hope to promote excellence in my students no matter the level of their playing or the pace of their progress. The most important thing to me, however, is that they enjoy playing trumpet and that they put in the effort to improve. I cannot make a student better at playing the trumpet, I can guide them and give them the tools and insight on how to improve, but ultimately the student must put in the work in order to become a better player.
