With my education being from one of the world's leading contemporary institutes for music, I have a diverse resume of music experience. I have performed in many different venues like Symphony Hall and Agganis Arena in Boston where I attended Berklee College of Music. My original instrument is viola. I took up violin, guitar, and voice short after. Whether you are looking for a classical strings teacher, you are interested in fiddle tunes or folk styles, want to learn to sing or play guitar, look no further! I can offer you direction and structure to achieve your musical goals.
I began offering private string lessons in College during summers in Florida. I taught private string lessons. Further into my education I took internships in music therapy working with many different populations. I gave therapeutic music lessons to patients in hospitals like Massachusetts General Hospital, Worcester Recovery Center and McLean Hospital. There I ventured into teaching guitar and voice. At Berklee College of Music, I worked with young children during our city's Beantown Jazz fest to help introduce them to new instruments. I also worked in Berklee's string summer camps and assisted high school students in small ensembles and orchestras.
When teaching strings to beginners I tend to teach out of a string methods book but I also offer stylistic direction outside of the book. I find this method helps the student with dependency of string books and helps to harbor curiosity to the vast world of music and methods beyond one book. I offer compositions fit to the level of the student and give them the opportunity to bring them up to performance standard. For adults, I survey the student and assess their interests and abilities. From there we can formulate what lesson plans they'd like to pursue to help ensure they learn their interests and acquire the right technical skills and knowledge to help harbor their music playing,
I find that my teaching style is focused on harboring curiosity of music for the beginner student. It brings me joy to see a student go above and beyond because they research more to what I offer them on the page to help enrich their playing. I ask students what they most would like to work on or accomplish and help them set realistic goals with skill building exercises to practice. I offer positive affirmation and understand that the joys of music are important beyond a competitive aspects. I'd most like my students to have fun while learning and in turn create music they can express themselves through.
