Music Award from George Wythe High Accompanist for the Heritage School of Dance and for the School for the Richmond Ballet Organist for Eastern Star and for my Church A member of a dual musical Act called Thomas and Holzbach
Overview:
I'm passionate and bringing out the best in my students and helping them to reach their musical goals. In 1976 I received a music award from the choir director at George Wythe High School. I was hired to accompany the dancers for the Heritage School of Dance while I was in tenth grade and have been with them for 12 years. I played for the School for the Richmond Ballet for one year than became a member of a musical act which lasted 13 years. In my mid teens I was playing for the church choir, for the children and later became organist for my church. I am currently the organist for the Eastern Star.
EXPERIENCE
I started giving private lessons in their homes part time in 2012 as well as receiving students in my home. They have the option of taking weekly lessons or bi-weekly lessons. The lesson material that I'm working with my students on is the Alfred series. This would involve learning to play rock, classical, spiritual, standard, patriotic and learning their chords. I'm very passionate about helping my students reach their full potential and to have a wonderful musical experience. They would learn their dynamics, how to create and how to improvise. When my students play from the heart, than I know that I am doing my job. My goal and dream is to have them play better than me.
METHODS USED
For the beginner, I would start the child on the Alfred Series Level 1. Children 5 - 7 would have the Mozart series from Level 1-4. older children would be studying Alfred Piano Lesson 1, Solo 1, Theory 1, Hymns 1 and Technic 1. As they move forward, they would advance to the next level upon completion of the previous level. They would be introduced to Repertoire, Recital and Praise Hymns. They would learn how to play their chords and apply their dynamics. They would go through the Hanon Series and work on Classical Music. This would help them to play from the heart. They would receive ear training and learn to create and improvise. My adult students would receive the Adult Alfred Series with the same format. I would only assign how much the student would be ready to learn and enjoy. My goal would be to give them an enjoyable musical experience and get the most out of what they learn.
LESSON STYLE
What is rewarding to me is to see my students develop a love and passion for music. I make sure to work with each student at their own pace and encourage them to practice regularly . When I praise my students for a job well done they feel a sense of accomplishment with a desire to learn more. The ultimate climax of that accomplishment is when they perform at their piano recitals. These students can play as many songs as they want to in front of their family and friends. The key is this: Let a caring teacher bring the love of music into your life. Let your talent shine.
