Overview:
I love teaching beginners of any age including special needs students. Most importantly, I will help you learn to play the music you LOVE and stay motivated. I specialize in Adult Beginners and am happy to teach students aged 9 to 109!
I worked as a professional musician in New York City for several years and played in numerous Salsa bands, a Ska band—and small classical groups. I also led a group called The Triple Trouble Trombone Trio and a 12 piece Salsa band called “Profundo” as well as a 9 piece Salsa/Middle Easter R&B Hybrid band called “Havana Gila”
EXPERIENCE
I have over 15 years experience teaching privately as well as teaching band and orchestra in public schools.
At one time I taught thirty-eight, half hour band and orchestra sessions every week. This included private Jazz ensembles and orchestra—all at the Elementary level.
I taught 4th and 5th grade band and orchestra for the San Ramon Valley School District for 5 years as well as after-school ensembles for 9-11 year olds.
I always have high expectations for my students and find that students “rise to the ocassion” when they know I have confidence they can reach their goals.
METHODS USED
I will share fun and efficient ways to practice so that you get immediate results. If desired, I also guarantee you will be playing a blues and improvising within a maximum of 6 weeks as long as you practice at least 10 minutes, three times a week. You will have the option of playing along with recordings minus your part so that you can experience the joy of ensemble playing early on in the safety of your own home. I love creating small ensemble groups of students at similar levels and arranging concerts at regular intervals.
LESSON STYLE
I cater lessons to YOUR needs and goals. I am not invested in there being a "right" technique of any kind. Together we will create a custom approach so that you will love the experience of playing the music you love.

Sara is so encouraging to the kids. She has motivated them to practice and to become better musicians. We are so glad to have Sara as our teacher.
