I have been living, teaching, and performing music in Austin for the last 8 years. I sing and play guitar with Sara Shansky and the Titanic Dance Band. I grew up in Rhode Island, went to Tufts University for my bachelors degree, and spent a few years on the west coast playing music and falling in love. My husband and I just had our first baby in August of 2012 and I'm sure he will be a music lover too!
Over 20 years experience performing, and teaching voice, piano, and guitar.
For younger beginners on piano I use the Hal Leonard series to start. For older piano students I use Faber & Faber.
For guitar and voice, I base my method on the students' interest. I feel that for a student to be successful and enjoy the instrument they are learning, they need to be learning a style that excites them.
I keep my lessons very relaxed. I want the student to feel comfortable. This does not mean, however, that I do not hold high expectations for my students. I hold the students responsible for their own progress. If they don't practice, they do not improve. I make sure they and their parents (if applicable) know exactly what they should be working on each week, as well as areas that need improvement.
