Bacholers in Music Education from the Greatbatch School Of Music
Hi everyone! I'm so excited to announce that I'm going to be teaching private or group Violin, Viola, Cello, and Ukulele lessons!
I understand how important it is to recognize every child's individual needs and learning styles. I try to learn each child's learning style very quickly so I can teach them in a way that makes the most sense to them utilizing lost of "games" and fun activities in my lessons.
I understand that it is difficult to commit and buy an expensive instrument for a child that doesn't even know if they will like music lessons. I have rental violins available so you can be sure your child enjoys it before you buy.
I'm a NY certified music educator and I absolutely love teaching music. I graduated in 2018 from Houghton College with a degree in music education. Last year I taught middle school orchestra and general music at a public school outside of Syracuse.
I taught private viola and cello lessons during college to other music education majors, and this year I have a studio in Owego. I have a number of current student and can provide references upon request. I believe that music lessons should be enjoyable for the students and strive to include fun games tailored to their individual learning style.
Everything depends on what instrument the student is learning. For violin, viola, and cello lessons I typically use a few different method books and handout sheets for the first few lessons, and then switch to using Suzuki books once the basic concepts have been mastered.
For ukulele students I try to find out what the student is interested and tailor their lessons to include the types of songs they want to learn to play. Every ukulele student starts out by playing a packet of folk songs. This ensures they know the basic concepts before moving on to more difficult things.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. I like to have little competitions within my studios to foster healthy competition that will encourage students to always keep learning.
