Overview:
Hello! My name is Sarah and I am very excited to be looking to start up teaching studio in Chicagoland. I’ve always loved teaching and sharing my passion for music with others, from Texas marching band to working one-on-one with students of all ages. I have two degrees in Clarinet Performance from the University of Texas at Austin and Northwestern University. I have had the opportunity to work with many great clarinet teachers and have taken what I have learned as a student and directly funneled it into my own teaching practices.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates back to my high school years, 8 years ago, when I was a section leader for my marching band and I got to teach marching routines and lead sectionals for my section. Later, at my undergraduate degree, I got hired at three different middle and high schools to teach private lessons and give master classes. Since leaving Texas and moving to Chicago, I haven’t been able to teach due to my busy school schedule, but I am very excited to start up my studio again with Musika!
METHODS USED
I always start out just seeing where each student is at in their music career, no matter the age. Every student is different and might need a different approach. I personally am big on fundamental skills, such as embouchure, hand position, tongue position, and articulation as these are all important foundations to build both skill and fun off of. However, I know some people are more focused on just having a good time playing, and might take a different approach with that kind of player. I have a lot of different method books that I recommend to beginners that I also use! It’s never too late to learn something new.
LESSON STYLE
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it’s important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students’ desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying t find out what inspires the atudent, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. The customer always comes first, so to say!
