Overview:
I love teaching and sharing my knowledge with others and seeing them grow to their best ability not only as musicians but as human beings. I play many different instruments and teach many different styles and all levels.my personal philosophy is that learning has to be fun to stay interested. Music is my life and I’ve been lucky enough to grace the stage with many amazing musicians. I am lucky enough to have been taught by many great teachers And incorporate what I’ve learned into my own style of playing and teaching… I’ve been in many bands in my life and done many Music projects and recording projects
EXPERIENCE
I’ve been teaching on and off for over 20 years now students all ages and skill levels And even taught African drumming at Northern Westchester Center for the arts in New York for over 10 years now I currently teach guitar, ukulele, Bass, and percussion in Westchester and Putnam county New York. I have been lucky enough to perform with incredible studio musicians from the following bands Santana, Chaka Khan, shalamar, Chuck Berry, Gary US bonds,Jerry Lee Lewis just to name a few. I am currently working on a ukulele instruction book with a publisher
METHODS USED
I typically start by teaching them the parts of the guitar how to hold a guitar and all the physical fundamentals including fretting notes properly etc... then I ask them what their goals are as a player if they’re interested in learning a lot of theory or just want to sing and play with their friends etc.… Then I teach them the names of the strings and tell them to memorize them as well as the dot markers on the fretboard and then I have them learn some strumming patterns and a few simple chords to get them started and then begin learning the names of the notes from open position to 12th and then learning The major scale up the neck one string at a time… And I also incorporate the use of a Metronome which I find is hugely important… Then we incorporate a simple song that they can play with four chords from there onto learning how to harmonize the major scale and then incorporate more theory… All the while assessing their needs and fixing any trouble spots they’re having… Then on to scales and more theory and More Metronome work...And every couple of lessons I teach them a new song of their choosing to make sure that they’re having fun fun fun
LESSON STYLE
My number One thing is that it has to be fun learning otherwise the students get bored easily and disinterested so I always incorporate learning real music while you’re learning theory and carefully assessing the students strong points and trouble spots all the while giving them goals and consistent practice schedule And the critical importance of using a Metronome and having excellent timing. I want more than anything for it to be an enjoyable experience as well as a growth process for them and you continually push themselves to greater limits and I always stress the importance of practicing a little bit every day for muscle memory As supposed to spread out long practice sessions and I always give them encouraging words to help propel them to new heights, I also encourage them to bring any songs they would like to learn so that they can be playing with other fellow musicians and singers as quickly as possible
